Case Study | SHE Matters

About the Client:

The Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic is a specialized clinic for women experiencing violence, established in the memory of Barbra Schlifer – an idealistic young lawyer whose life was cut short by violence on the night of her call to the bar of Ontario on April 11, 1980. In the 2018/2019 fiscal year the received request from 7,000 women.  The Clinic assists women to build lives free from violence through professional counselling, legal representation and language interpretation.

SHE Matters Event:

SHE Matters is a Sunday brunch fundraising event where attendees can eat, drink, and network while learning about and contributing to the Clinic. In 2018, the fundraiser was developed in order to engage young professionals and familiarize them with the clinic. The SHE Matters inaugural event was hugely successful – selling out and exceeding the fundraising goal – so the event was annualized.

The Objective:

The client was looking for a tote that would complete their swag bag. Swag bags were included as part of SHE Matters to incentivize ticket sales and to act as branded token for attendees to remember the Clinic in the future. Putting together a swag bag also gives the Clinic the opportunity to engage with local businesses through in-kind donations which, in turn, are given to the attendees as a thank you for participating in the fundraiser.

The Solution:

A simple, useful co-branded tote bag! Totes are a very practical item, meaning,  any leftover SHE Matters bags can be given to their clients in the future.

The Outcome:

The 2nd annual SHE Matters event was a great success! They exceeded their fundraising goal of $20,000 and raised $25,500 due to the collective support of our sponsors, donors, attendees, staff, and volunteers.

The swag bags were displayed at registration and given out as guests were leaving. As the swag bags were promoted as an element of the event, attendees were anticipating them, were curious about their contents, and were eager to receive the bags upon exiting. Throughout the event, the bag’s design and practicality were complimented on by attendees. Staff and volunteers also commented on the bag’s capability as a marketing tool. Indeed, after the event, multiple attendees were carrying their Barbra Schlifer tote bag to their next destination.
